J\u2019ai personnellement du mal \u00e0 r\u00e9aliser que nous sommes d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 mi-parcours de l\u2019ann\u00e9e 2026 et que l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 bat d\u00e9j\u00e0 son plein. Pour moi, les temp\u00e9ratures plus chaudes ont toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 un rappel de mes complexes li\u00e9s \u00e0 mon image corporelle. Tout \u00e0 coup, tout le monde porte des shorts et des robes, et je me sens trop p\u00e2le, pas assez mince ou pas assez tonique.   <\/p>\n<p>R\u00e9cemment, je suis tomb\u00e9e sur une \u00e9tude consacr\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019image corporelle et au refus de faire de l\u2019exercice chez les jeunes adultes. Cela m\u2019a amen\u00e9e \u00e0 me demander si ces m\u00eames sentiments \u00e9voluaient \u00e0 mesure que l\u2019on vieillissait, ou s\u2019ils prenaient simplement des formes diff\u00e9rentes. Il s\u2019av\u00e8re que la r\u00e9ponse est \u00e0 la fois oui et non. L\u2019image corporelle reste importante \u00e0 mesure que l\u2019on vieillit, mais elle ne constitue plus qu\u2019une pi\u00e8ce d\u2019un puzzle bien plus vaste.   <\/p>\n<p id=\"mcetoc_1js26s9ul0\"><strong>Quand l&rsquo;image corporelle devient un obstacle \u00e0 la pratique d&rsquo;une activit\u00e9 physique<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pour mieux cerner cette situation dans son ensemble, examinons tout d&rsquo;abord ce que nous savons sur l&rsquo;image corporelle et l&rsquo;activit\u00e9 physique en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral.<\/p>\n<p>On entend souvent dire qu\u2019une activit\u00e9 physique r\u00e9guli\u00e8re est l\u2019une des meilleures choses que l\u2019on puisse faire pour sa sant\u00e9. Pourtant, malgr\u00e9 ces bienfaits bien connus, de nombreuses personnes restent inactives. Si le manque de temps, les probl\u00e8mes de sant\u00e9 et l\u2019acc\u00e8s aux installations constituent des freins courants, un autre obstacle est souvent n\u00e9glig\u00e9 : <em>l\u2019image corporelle<\/em>. Pour beaucoup, faire de l\u2019exercice ne se r\u00e9sume pas simplement \u00e0 bouger son corps : il s\u2019agit aussi d\u2019\u00eatre <em>vu(e)<\/em> en train de le faire. La g\u00eane, la crainte d\u2019\u00eatre jug\u00e9(e) ou la pression li\u00e9e \u00e0 des crit\u00e8res de beaut\u00e9 irr\u00e9alistes peuvent faire en sorte que les lieux d\u00e9di\u00e9s au fitness soient per\u00e7us comme intimidants plut\u00f4t qu\u2019accueillants.    <\/p>\n<p>Il n\u2019est donc pas surprenant que des \u00e9tudes montrent que l\u2019image corporelle joue un r\u00f4le important dans la pratique d\u2019une activit\u00e9 physique, en particulier chez les femmes et les adolescents. Les personnes qui ne sont pas satisfaites de leur apparence ou qui s\u2019inqui\u00e8tent de la fa\u00e7on dont les autres per\u00e7oivent leur corps sont moins enclines \u00e0 pratiquer un sport, \u00e0 suivre des cours de fitness ou \u00e0 participer \u00e0 des activit\u00e9s en salle de sport. Des \u00e9tudes ont \u00e9galement montr\u00e9 que les personnes victimes de stigmatisation li\u00e9e au poids \u2014 c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire d\u2019attitudes n\u00e9gatives ou de discrimination fond\u00e9es sur la corpulence \u2014 sont plus enclines \u00e0 \u00e9viter compl\u00e8tement l\u2019exercice physique. Lorsque l\u2019activit\u00e9 physique est associ\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019apparence plut\u00f4t qu\u2019au bien-\u00eatre, cela se traduit souvent par une baisse de motivation, moins de plaisir et un risque accru d\u2019abandon.   <\/p>\n<p id=\"mcetoc_1js26s9ul1\"><strong>L&rsquo;image corporelle chez les personnes \u00e2g\u00e9es<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chez les personnes \u00e2g\u00e9es, la situation est l\u00e9g\u00e8rement diff\u00e9rente. Les pr\u00e9occupations li\u00e9es \u00e0 l&rsquo;image corporelle ne disparaissent pas avec l&rsquo;\u00e2ge. De nombreuses femmes, en particulier, continuent d&rsquo;\u00e9prouver une insatisfaction vis-\u00e0-vis de leur apparence jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 un \u00e2ge avanc\u00e9. Les personnes \u00e2g\u00e9es ayant \u00e9t\u00e9 victimes de stigmatisation li\u00e9e au poids peuvent \u00e9galement \u00e9viter les lieux d\u00e9di\u00e9s au sport en raison d&rsquo;exp\u00e9riences pass\u00e9es de jugements ou de discrimination.   <\/p>\n<p>Cependant, les \u00e9tudes montrent syst\u00e9matiquement que l\u2019apparence physique n\u2019est pas la principale raison pour laquelle les adultes de plus de 65 ans \u00e9vitent l\u2019activit\u00e9 physique. Le plus souvent, les obstacles sont d\u2019ordre pratique : douleurs chroniques, peur de tomber, mobilit\u00e9 r\u00e9duite, fatigue, probl\u00e8mes de transport ou simplement le fait de ne pas savoir par o\u00f9 commencer. Certains se sentent \u00e9galement intimid\u00e9s par les lieux d\u00e9di\u00e9s au fitness qui semblent s\u2019adresser \u00e0 une client\u00e8le plus jeune et en meilleure forme physique. Plut\u00f4t que de se concentrer sur la perte de poids ou l\u2019apparence physique, les personnes \u00e2g\u00e9es sont bien plus enclines \u00e0 adopter l\u2019activit\u00e9 physique lorsqu\u2019elle est li\u00e9e \u00e0 des objectifs quotidiens significatifs. Rester suffisamment en forme pour jardiner, monter les escaliers, voyager, jouer avec ses petits-enfants, conserver son \u00e9quilibre, r\u00e9duire la douleur ou continuer \u00e0 vivre de mani\u00e8re autonome sont autant de facteurs de motivation puissants. Le plaisir et les liens sociaux ont \u00e9galement leur importance. Se promener avec un ami, rejoindre un groupe de marche ou un cours de sport communautaire, ou participer \u00e0 un programme de danse peut faire en sorte que l\u2019activit\u00e9 physique soit moins per\u00e7ue comme une corv\u00e9e et davantage comme une occasion de cr\u00e9er des liens avec les autres.    <\/p>\n<p>En mettant en avant ce dont notre corps est capable plut\u00f4t que son apparence, nous cr\u00e9ons des environnements plus inclusifs o\u00f9 les personnes de tous \u00e2ges \u2014 et de toutes morphologies \u2014 peuvent profiter des bienfaits physiques et \u00e9motionnels d&rsquo;une vie active. C\u2019est peut-\u00eatre une chose qu\u2019il vaut la peine de garder \u00e0 l\u2019esprit cet \u00e9t\u00e9.
